Description
Over the centuries, the dayak has become a symbol of Banja Luka, leaving its mark on the city’s culture. Legend even says that the city’s founder arrived here aboard one.
In reality, the dayak was born of necessity—a simple pole-propelled vessel used to ferry goods and people across the Vrbas. A 15 km urban route follows the river’s shallow, stone-bottomed banks, exactly the conditions needed for punting—and thus for giving the boat its name.
